Top 5 Tips to Stop Wasting Time — May 30, 2017

Top 5 Tips to Stop Wasting Time

After a long bank holiday weekend, it is all to easy look back on your time off and not achieved anything and fell like you’ve wasted all that time.  Whilst a little down time is good, too much can be detrimental and leave you feeling lethargic and demotivated.

So here a few tips to make sure you make the most of your time off:

Plan– Set yourself some simple goals, things that you can achieve, this might place you want to visit or jobs that you need do around the house.  This allows you to visualize what you want to achieve and is a good way to review your progress.

Use a Diary – It might sound a little too much like ‘work’ but use a diary to plan when you intend completing parts of your plan.  Set yourself some contingency’s, what are you going to do if it rains? This way it will remind you to prepare for the job, making it more likely that you will complete your task.  It can also help to motivate you, as you have something to look forward to.

Routines – Do you have habitual habits that are getting in the way of you achieving your goals?  Do you spend a whole day food shopping? Do you spend all your time off cleaning?  It is worth looking at these routines and work out what you can change and how that can free up your spare time, allowing you to achieve more.  What about internet shopping? Getting a cleaner?

Networking – do you need a little more encouragement to make that step out of your comfort zone?  Do you know anybody that takes part in an activity you’d like to do?  Spend some time researching groups that do these activities, use sites like Meetup to find local people with similar interest and engage in conversations.  This might facilitate and increase your enjoyment of these activities.

Work Hangover – do you bring your work home, does it get in the way? Do you need to bring work home?  Spend time looking at how you work, can you stop bringing work home?  Can you change the way you work?  This will allow you to focus on your time off and achieve more.

This all sounds great in practice, but does it work?  Recently I found myself with an increasing amount of jobs around the house, and with no motivation to get them done.  So, I sat down and created a ‘to do list’ and planned this in around other family activities.  Whilst I still did not want to do the jobs, it became easier to see when I was going to do them, and the motivation increased as I started to cross them off the list.

Go on, give it a go, take control of your spare time…..
